Highlands Ability Battery

The World Health Organization has identified “unsuitable job content” as a major contributor to mental health outcomes. And numerous studies have shown that mental health outcomes are significantly associated with how closely a person’s skills and desires match their job.

While the type of work you do shouldn't be your identity, the average person spends one third of their life, or 90,000 hours over a lifetime, at work, so the more fulfillment you can get out of work, the better!

Even though humans love to compartmentalize and are often looking for a distinct line from one cause to one effect, life more closely resembles a web where every factor is interconnected. And while laying on a couch telling your therapist week after week how you feel can have some benefit, understanding how you feel about something is only one part of a whole person approach.

What the Highlands
Measures

The Highlands Ability Battery (HAB) is widely considered the gold standard of human assessment tools and was founded on the work of research scientist Johnson O’Connor. It identifies a person’s natural ability and provides compelling evidence of the driving forces that lie underneath their personality and actions. These natural tendencies already influence your choices, but the more you know about them the more you can use them to your advantage.

What to Expect

The HAB consists of 19 virtual work samples that can be taken from any laptop. The work samples can be done one at a time or all at once and take about three hours in total.

It will measure basic human ability including:
- Visual speed and accuracy
- Ability to work with numbers and designs
- Inductive reasoning
- Analytical Reasoning
- Idea Flow
- Verbal aptitude
- Structural Visualization
- Musical aptitude
- Applications of memory

Why it matters

Your personalized profile will not only show the score you achieved but will also help you understand the significance as it relates to your personality, your motivation, how you learn, communicate, solve problems, and make decisions.

There is no inherent benefit to one ability over another -- it's knowing your strengths that gives you the advantage. When you understand how your patterns of abilities work, you can make decisions to impact your life.

At Reframed Mental Health we aim to leverage this information to more broadly impact your entire life. Using a holistic approach, we can show you how to use your results to help navigate difficult relationships, more effectively work through trauma, or find a more fulfilling career.
